Mailbox update
Although we are still having latch problems, there is some positive signs:
The frequency of bad latches has declined somewhat. The manufacturer, Salsbury Industries, is working with us to resolve the problem. The metal disk separating from the door remains the prevalent failure. Salsbury has sent improved discs and specific replacement instructions. Most of the boxes repaired this way are still working.
Another failure mode is becoming more frequent. The magnet holder (the round plastic insert with the two permanent magnets) which is held by the bracket at the top of the box itself, can be pushed too far into the bracket. In some cases the latch may still hold the door closed but only if the door is closed slowly. W are working with Salisbury for a permanent fix but in the meantime we can pull the magnet holder back out with pliers. To minimize this problem, please don’t slam the door too hard. We have asked the mail person to avoid this also. The boxes shouldn’t be this sensitive to normal us but until we resolve the issue with Salsbury we need your help.
As always, if you have a mailbox problem call Roger Moffett (897-3577) or email NFHA. Please give address with your message.
